The second round of health management assistance at the Cooplaf Leite Project was carried out between the end of May and the beginning of June. Consultants from Instituto BioSistêmico (IBS) carried out the consultations with Vaca Móvel, na IBS unit equipped to monitor the quality of milk and the health of the herds, as well as to carry out Fixed Time Artificial Insemination (FTAI).

In addition to the FTAI, the Instituto BioSistêmico team carried out milk quality tests and reinforced the health management guidelines aimed at herd health and good milking hygiene practices.

In this second round, the consultants were able to observe changes that are already being implemented in most of the 100 properties served by IBS in the region of Terenos, in Mato Grosso do Sul.

“We identified important changes regarding good milking practices on the properties, such as cleaning the corral, correct hygiene of the milking parlor, pre- and post-dipping of the cows’ teats, as well as the correct hygiene of the milking machines, milk bucket, drum and cooler. ”, reports veterinarian Diego Otávio Teixeira.

These improvements in good milking practices were also observed in the visits of veterinarian Rachel Spression. “The use of a paper towel to dry the cows’ teats when cleaning was also a change adopted by the producers, which contributed to the reduction of clinical mastitis cases”, adds the veterinary doctor.

As observed in the reproductive management round, the sanitary management team identified, among the main changes, that producers are increasingly aware of the importance of using mineral salt for the herd.

“Many producers have switched from white salt to mineral salt, with a percentage of phosphorus that is ideal for cows in the reproductive part. This is a great advance that will contribute to good results in the reproduction part in the future”, highlights Rachel.

About the project

The Cooplaf Leite Project was conceived by the Instituto BioSistêmico with the main objective of promoting the development of dairy farming among the cooperative members of the Cooperativa Agrícola Mista da Pecuária de Corte e Leiteira and Agricultura Familiar (Cooplaf), an entity headquartered in the municipality of Terenos, in state of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the Center-West region of Brazil.

Executed by IBS, the initiative has the support of resources from the Zoetis Foundation and the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae) in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. It also receives institutional and academic support from Unimar – University of Marília.

This is another livestock project carried out by the Instituto BioSistêmico that uses the CheckMilk methodology, which has a platform with a management system and application for technical teams and producers. The system facilitates project management and the application helps the producer on a daily basis, as an extension of the IBS consultancy that can be accessed at any time in the palm of the hand.
