The Instituto BioSistético (IBS) has been promoting the Young Entrepreneur Gymkhana, with activities aimed at the children of producers assisted by IBS in the Cooplaf Leite Project, in settlements in the region of Terenos, Mato Grosso do Sul.

The action is part of the scope of this project developed by IBS in partnership with Fundação Zoetis and Sebrae/MS, contributing to the goal of engaging young people and women. The objective is to foster the development of sustainable businesses, protect the family legacy and prosper in an increasingly dynamic sector.

The gymkhana was launched in September at a meeting at the headquarters of the Mixed Agricultural Cooperative of Beef and Dairy Livestock and Family Agriculture (Cooplaf), in Terenos, led by the IBS team and with the participation of representatives of the cooperative. In this first meeting, topics such as family succession, entrepreneurial motivation, the importance of agribusiness were addressed, in addition to clarifying the rules for participating in the Young Entrepreneur Gymkhana.

In the first meeting, the Instituto BioSistêmico team also presented the ChecKMilk platform to the young people, teaching how it works, how it should be fed with the information on the properties and how the CheckMilk methodology is applied in the execution of the entire Cooplaf Leite Project.Teenagers and young people between 13 and 21 years of age who participate in the gymkhana must meet the goals of launching zootechnical data in the CheckMilk application, in addition to participating in technical training. The presence and engagement in the tasks count towards the participants' score, which will have the results in the tasks evaluated by a commission formed by IBS and Cooplaf.

“Our goal is to awaken these young people's interest in the milk production chain, contributing to their greater engagement in the dairy business of their respective families. We are training these young people so that they better understand the data, the controls that are made from the CheckMilk application”, highlights the veterinarian Bruna Bastos, who is part of the IBS team in the Cooplaf Leite Project.

She explains that this familiarity of young people with CheckMilk facilitates the understanding of the data that is collected every month from each property, what are the necessary actions and the impacts on the properties of the management of information from the platform.

“Each young person has been collecting data on the family property, inserting it into the CheckMilk application and then analyzing this data, which will contribute to a more efficient management of the property. The idea is that they present improvement solutions for the family business”, adds the veterinarian.

In October, the IBS team held a remote meeting to clarify doubts and provide additional guidance, in addition to a face-to-face meeting to capture the information collected by them over the course of a month.

At the face-to-face meeting, they had the support of the CheckMilk technical coordinator, Matheus Henrique Magalhães, to compile the information and interpret the data. It was a practical exercise that reinforced the importance of using the CheckMilk application for running the family property.

For the month of November, another remote meeting is scheduled to support young people and in early December, actions are scheduled to close with the award of the top three. The first place will be awarded with a notebook, the second with a tablet and the third with a cell phone.

According to the corporate director of IBS, Luís Henrichsen, the involvement of young people in the actions of the Cooplaf Leite Project is of fundamental importance for the effectiveness of the work that has been developed in the 100 properties served.

“In this gymkhana, in addition to promoting digital inclusion, we provide these young people with information and tools that allow the expansion of the horizon of the new generations. In actions like this, we encourage a more entrepreneurial vision and a more active role on the part of young people for the prosperity of the family business, preparing the ground with more solid foundations for family succession”, emphasizes Henrichsen.

About the project

The Cooplaf Leite Project was conceived by the Instituto BioSistêmico with the main objective of promoting the development of dairy farming among the cooperative members of the Cooperativa Agrícola Mista da Pecuária de Corte e Leiteira and Agricultura Familiar (Cooplaf), an entity headquartered in the municipality of Terenos, in state of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the Center-West region of Brazil.

Executed by IBS, the initiative has the support of resources from the Zoetis Foundation and the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae) in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. It also receives institutional and academic support from Unimar – University of Marília.

This is another livestock project carried out by the Instituto BioSistêmico that uses the CheckMilk methodology, which has a platform with a management system and application for technical teams and producers. The system facilitates project management and the application helps the producer on a daily basis, as an extension of the IBS consultancy that can be accessed at any time in the palm of the hand.
