The IBS consultant highlights the importance of forage planning

The Instituto BioSistêmico (IBS) has been carrying out another round of nutritional management services for the dairy herd, covering the 100 properties served in the Cooplaf Leite Project, in settlements in the municipality of Terenos, Mato Grosso do Sul.

Initiated on 02/21, the consultations, which continue until 03/20, are being carried out by agronomist Edson José Strapação, a member of the team of consultants from IBS in this project.

According to Edson, forage planning is an important tool for the rural producer because it consists of using the surplus production of roughage in the rainy season, either through pasture or weeding.

It is in this way, according to him, that it is possible to guarantee adequate food, with the quality and quantity necessary to meet the nutritional requirements of the herd throughout the year.

“With this surplus volume, hay or silage can be made, which must be stored for the dry period, when there is usually a reduction in the supply of food for the animals”, explains the agronomist.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, rains tend to be more frequent between spring and summer. Therefore, it is during this period that producers must concentrate their efforts on the production of roughage, preparing for the dry period that is more common between autumn and winter in this region.

About the project

The Cooplaf Leite Project was conceived by the Instituto BioSistêmico with the main objective of promoting the development of dairy farming among the cooperative members of the Cooperativa Agrícola Mista da Pecuária de Corte e Leiteira and Agricultura Familiar (Cooplaf), an entity headquartered in the municipality of Terenos, in state of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the Center-West region of Brazil.

Executed by IBS, the initiative has the support of resources from the Zoetis Foundation and the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises (Sebrae) in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. It also receives institutional and academic support from Unimar – University of Marília.

This is another livestock project carried out by the Instituto BioSistêmico that uses the CheckMilk methodology, which has a platform with a management system and application for technical teams and producers. The system facilitates project management and the application helps the producer on a daily basis, as an extension of the IBS consultancy that can be accessed at any time in the palm of the hand.
